Some things are
better with time. So it is with akevitt (aquavit), the water of
life, and the national spirit of Norway. The most famous akevitt,
Loiten Linie, is matured through a century-old process which
includes a sea voyage in oak casks across the equator and back (each
bottle carries details of its voyage on its label). The story
originates from 1840, when the Norwegian ship Preciosa rounded Cape
Horn; on board was akevitt, which the crew swore had improved in
flavor. Distilled from Norwegian potatoes, this blend of spirit,
caraway and other herbs and spices is matured for several months in
sherry casks. Our very own Akevitt—a handsome sweater that’s great
from the beginning, and great with time as well. This enormously
comfortable pullover, suitable to any informal occasion, is
“matured” with a classic Norwegian pattern in a structural knit.
